About Judith

Certified and accredited dog behaviorist

Judith Fick

I am 42 years old and work as a dog trainer. I myself have two rehomed dogs and in 2015 I founded Hondentaak.

At DOA, the largest animal shelter in the Netherlands, I conducted behavioral tests with shelter dogs. At KNGF Geleidehonden (guiding dogs for the blind) I have been active as an instructor.

I am accredited as a dog behavior therapist by the SPPD (Stichting Platform Professionele Diergedragsdeskundigen).

Long-term results

We train in a positive way with an eye on long-term results. More important than outstanding obedience, I find the way a dog interacts with its environment. Proper interaction with other dogs and people is what I find interesting. I appreciate it when the dog learns to make its own decisions.

Background

In 2013, I adopted a Spanish dog, Reza. Wanting to learn more about her behavior and how I could influence it, I started taking courses and training. At both O&O (Dutch Association for Instructors in Dog Education and Training) and Dogvision Kynological training center, I graduated as a Kynological Instructor. In 2017, I adopted another Spanish dog, Puk. I am a certified Dog Behavior Therapist through Dogvision. I have been working as a dog trainer for many years, working for KNGF guide dogs and from my own business. In addition, I occasionally engage in dog behavior testing, including for the Leonberger breed association.

Vision

I work with positive parenting/training, but also favor clear communication to the dog. This includes rules and boundaries. I believe that a dog deserves all freedom, as long as he can handle it well. Our job is to meet the animal’s needs.

Because creating behavioral changes requires skills from both the dog and owner, it takes time and effort. After all, only with practice and repetition do new skills become habits. Thus, aftercare is a standard part of my package.

“Repetition is the mother of learning, the father of action, which makes it the architect of accomplishment.”

Collaboration

If we are going to work together, I think it is important that we go for it together. I will collect information from you until I have a total clear picture of the dog, so I can give you the best possible advice. I like to work with owners who are willing to invest in their dog and understand the well-being of their animal.

If you are interested in a cooperation, I would love to get in touch with you.
